The Innovation Fund – Ireland
The National Pensions Reserve Fund (NPRF) has been working closely with Enterprise Ireland and the Department of the Taoiseach to assist in setting up the Innovation Fund Ireland, a €500 million Irish Government initiative designed to attract leading international venture capital fund managers to Ireland.
Innovation Fund Ireland funding comprises three elements. The first is Exchequer funding of €125 million, which will be managed by Enterprise Ireland. The second allows the NPRF to invest a similar amount as part of its private equity programme providing its commercial investment criteria are met. The balance will be raised privately by participating venture capital managers.
Venture capital funds that receive an investment from Enterprise Ireland will have to commit to investing a meaningful proportion of their fund in Irish companies or companies with significant Irish operations. Funds that receive an investment from the NPRF under its strictly commercial mandate may invest in companies across Europe or elsewhere but may be required to fulfil conditions on a bespoke basis that will be favourable to building out the innovation infrastructure in Ireland.
The Innovation Fund Ireland Brochure provides detailed information on the benefits of locating and investing in Ireland and is a key reference document for those wishing to submit an expression of interest.
